Very slow service and the food was not good at all. There was no seasonings on the steak and it was very burnt with no flavor. Hubby got the pick three. Shrimp was good. Catfish and steak were horrible. Had to constantly flag down the waitress for service and it wasn't even busy. Glad we have a groupon because if this was full price we would demand a refund. The locals who always come here clearly get better service....probably better food too.

This place was so disappointing. Very outdated, yet sort of comfortable layout for the restaurant. There was a decent amount of people, but everyone was being taken care of well, or so I thought. Our waitress seemed to be a favorite among other customers, but towards us... she was rude and not very friendly. First it took us about forty minutes to even get her to take our order. That should have been the first sign. Strike one. Second, when my boyfriend and I ordered the salad that came with the meal, we asked for a garden salad with caesar dressing. That is very different then caesar salad. I specified that that is what we want and she rushed us and went away. She comes back with two caesar salads (which by the way are two dollars more). I told her I thought we were getting garden salads with caesar dressing. She basically said no and that it is caesar salad and she walked off. Rude. Then my boyfriend flags her down (after she ignored him twice... they made eye contact and she looked away) and says everyone else around us is getting garden salads, so we want the correct one. She snatched my salad from the table, came back ten minutes later and basically threw a salad down in front of me. It was the core of iceberg lettuce, one awkward hunk of tomato all swimming in a pile of caesar dressing. At this point, I'm hungry. I should have complained, but I ate it. Horrible. Strike two. So at this point, we've been at the restaurant for over an hour. Drinks are empty. Only been attended when a different person brought us bread, which was good, water, and then our waitress took our order and tossed salads at me. Finally the food came. We both ordered steak and some random food with it. The fries were frozen and so cheap for a steakhouse. Unseasoned and poorly heated up. Steaks were both undercooked. Rice was dry. Shrimp was bad. And green beans were frozen. Such a dosappointment. We should have left, but we already bought the Groupon. Also, ribeye steak... Had no seasoning whatsoever. Strike three. I couldn't believe it. Finally the waitress came back and messed up the bill for the caesar salad we ordered but got replaced with the free garden salad. She claims because we had caesar dressing, it was still the two dollars. Strike four. This waitress was ridiculous. So irritated with the place, that we didn't even fight it and just took the extra money out of her already dwindled tip. Only positive experience we had was the bread. I do not recommend this place at all. The entire time all my boyfriend and I could think about was how this place needs to be on Kitchen Nightmares and to get rid of our waitress. Side note: even if you are known because you have been there forever as a waitress, doesn't mean you stop being professional. Her conversation was so loud and inappropriate at times with others.

Used the fifty dollar groupon. It was mediocre at best. I've had filet at an excellent restaurant previously and the filets we had at Luby's were not very good. It took a really long time to get the entrees. it was really not worth it.

I had the veal picatta..I was very very satisfied with mine. However, my husband went with the chicken marsala, and was disappointed in it. He said it lacked flavor and seasoning. Split pea soup was awesome. We split a tiramisu for dessert. And it was delicious! Barb is a great server. Even with a coupon, it was $45.00... Oh well. .

First I can't believe this is rated 4 stars.....decor is so out dated to have market price anything let alone a ribye steak!!! Had to repeat/correct our server multiple times! Ordered steak, which was over cooked, 2nd steak cooked uneven, but was told they would take the under cooked part and put it back on the grill??? WTH...I refused to have any of it, but expected to pay for it??? It wouldn't let me post unless I gave it one star. I gave it zero stars...

Yesterday, Valentine's Day, we experienced a wonderful evening at Luby's. Attentiveness by management, servers, and support staff was magnificent. The kicker was that the chateaubriand dinner, from the shrimp cocktail, soup, salad and the steak....was perfectly prepared. We are regulars, normally do not rave about an establishmen, but this, indeed is a exception, warranting acknowledgement. Highly recommended!! elliott

Restaurant wasn't very busy at all, but the waitress was very slow to take our order. Once she took our order, it took well over an hour to get our food. My son ordered pizza and said it was slimy. I took a bite and it seemed very greasy. Daughter ordered mac & cheese (only ate 1/2 of it). Both kids asked for milk (they didn't serve milk). Husband ordered pork chops (way over cooked), I ordered onion soup and salad (soup was good, salad was not so good), mom ordered prime rib (overcooked). Very next morning, both my son and I threw up. Will not go there again.

There was 13 of us going for a nice mothers day brunch, and we left before we even ate. The owner was very rude and called my dad a jerk and told us "get out and don't come back" as we left. We told him he was losing 13 customers and he replied "good, don't come back". After reading the reviews on yelp, I have realized I'm not the only one with customer service problems at this establishment. I would not recommend Luby's to anyone.

I love this place. Its like my little hide out spot whenever I purchase a groupon for them. Never had any problems. Food is very good, and they have very nice sized portions. Aside from the weird looks from the patrons I get when I go, its pretty cool.

Maybe the hostess just doesn't like older women, one with a walker, as customers. She was unfriendly, bordering on rude. Was I being over-sensitive? Probably not because afterwards, my sister-in-law made a comment too. You can feel customer service and we both felt unwelcomed at Luby's. I've been there many times. I was happy to introduce my sister-in-law to this table cloth, casual dining restaurant. Food always good. But this evening's experience was disappointing, sad. So many restaurants in the TP, OP area. She just re-located to IL. Would she ever want to return to Luby's? Don't know.

We have been having great filets, good salad and fresh bruchetta, all included In the price of dinner.Drinks are reasonable and the dining room is wonderfully cozy with the touch of white tablecloths. Our service has always been good and prompt. The bar is also done beautifully with rich woods. We have been going to this location on Friday nights off and on for many years and we are satisfied and enjoy the good filets for a good price.

my boyfriend and i got a groupon as a gift so we used it today. the place was nice, kinda had a cozy country feel, a lot of older people my boyfriend and i were the only people there under the age of 55 there. ( i am 27 he is 23) so we may have stuck out. we did not get a racist vibe like one reviewer claimed lol the waitress was an older lady named barbara she was nice the only thing that irked me was that she was slow in taking our order she did not put the entree order in until AFTER we got our appetizers. seriously? she was nice but.....seriously? so we had to wait a long time for our entrees we were there for a total of an hour in a half. they give you complimentary bruschetta and bread- that was yummy. we got calamari and potato skins for appetizers( mind you we got a 50 dollar groupon and we had to spend it ALL so we took whatever we did not eat home) the calamari and the potato skins were both good, i got fried chicken and he got a burger and fries. another thing that irked me was that they charged 14 dollars for 4 pieces of fried chicken a half of a potato and vegetables which was nothing but frozen california medley that you can get at a super market. the chicken was good but if you are going to give me a potato give me BOTH halves. they dont offer mashed potatoes but the double baked potato was alright. and we got dessert to take home he got chocolate cake and i got the tirmsu which was fine not the best in the world but it tasted good. all in all the food was decent not worth 50 dollars but it is decent. and the service could be a little faster but the people were nice and the food was not too bad so i can deem it worth a try.

Our family had another great meal. I had the 12 oz Butt Steak which was a flavorful sirloin and tender. The wife had the pick-2 dinner which she chose chick breast and 6 oz sirloin. was very tasty.

a decent place, with a nice menu. the steaks have never been "great" but just ok. the serving sizes are very generous though, for a reasonable price. the staff is bla....but the fried chicken is good. the low point for me though has been the chicken marsala. worst reduction sauce ever, it was like eating nasty butter flavored glue. took all the taste out of the chicken/mushrooms :(

Went for dinner. Ordered 2 strip steaks medium rare. After waiting a long time, the waitress came out and said that another waitress took our steaks and gave them to another table so she would have to refire our order. A few minutes later she told us one of ur steaks was ready and would we like it now so it wouldn't sit while the other steak cooked. We are confused by this since we both ordered medium rare and she said they gave our steaks away??? Considering we had a groupon we already purchased for this dinner, we said fine. Steak was cooked medium well, not medium rare, see pic. Both steaks came out overdone and fatty. They gave us a $10 coupon towards a future meal, not happening, and a free dessert. This shouldn't happen when you go out for a nice dinner. Both steaks should come out at the same time, cooked how you asked, in a timely manner, is this too much to ask??? Will not return and definitely don't recommend.

So in the area looking for steak within a couple miles. Luby's looked good with 4/5 stars. Decor is outdated. Seat cushion was pushed way in like the springs were wore out 20 years ago. Not a big deal if the food is good. Menu had "market price" on the majority of the meat. Weird to find that market means a small dirty card that has prices that the waitress presents you with. Do we look like we can afford more? Tried the soup which was like tomato vegetable soup with spaghetti mixed in. Weird... Plus the piece of chicken cartilage was enough for me. The warm bread was good though. We both had the 16oz strip at $24 each. Salad was very fresh but odd taste to the dressing like French had a little Italian mixed in. Her steak looked good at rare. Has mine medium and blackened. So no seasoning on it at all and the cook told the waitress he did season with Cajun. ??? Steak also had deep cuts made in it and gristle running through the middle and was not cooked evenly. Meat quality was not congruent with a place charging market prices. But we did get to spin the wheel on the way out winning a ten dollar gift certificate. We might try once again and order something different to give them a fair shake. Not sure.

Had a Groupon - Pay $25, get $50. I went on a Monday evening so the place wasn't packed. They have discounted prices on Monday but you can not use a coupon for the special menu. They bring out a complimentary loaf of bread with bruschetta mix on the side to make your own, which was a nice touch. I ordered oysters rockefeller for an appetizer and it was pretty good. For my main course, I got the Cowboy bone-in ribeye steak cooked medium (it was more like medium well) and it was the most flavorless steak I've ever consumed. I should have known disappointment was coming when they brought out A1 steak sauce with my steak w/o me even asking for it. It came with a choice of soup, which was chicken noodle or salad - I chose the salad but it was swimming in dressing (order it on the side). You also get a choice of potato or rice and a mixed veggie, which was cold. The Cowboy steak is HUGE so I took the rest home thinking if the seasonings had time to settle then maybe it would taste better the next day but nope, it was equally as disgusting as it was on the 1st day. The service is friendly and attentive. I asked if they had a container I could package up our left over bruschetta mix (yes, it's just that good) and they were nice enough to give me a fresh batch to take home without me having to inquire. I, most likely, will not return, though.

Bought a groupon to use. Turned out the restaurant was closed due to a wedding. Now I am not able to use the groupon. This restaurant just got paid without even offering service. Call to check if they have any special events because of course if there is a wedding in the yard, the restaurant is closed.

Went there about 2 weeks ago on a Wednesday. With a Groupon voucher. Looked at their menu on line and everything was reasonably priced. Was seated right away by the host. Was given menu's, bread and water very quickly. Everything going great until we opened the menus. The prices for everything was double or triple the on line menu. 40 some dollars for an 8 Oz filet. Seriously????? All their Italian dishes were in the 20s or 30s. I questioned the waitress about the prices and she said it must have been an old menu. Finally all 4 of us ordered hamburgers. It was the only thing we could afford. One was ordered rare, 2 mid-well and 1 well. They all came back the same, med well. And so dry and tasteless that we sent one back and asked for it to be taken off the bill. The poor waitress had to be exhausted. She had our area plus 2 others and the outside patio. That place will be crossed our list forever.

OK...high time I review Luby's! We have been coming here for past year, usually on Groupon deal. Buy $25, get $50. So we ordered the fried onion loaf which dlowed their complimentary bruschetta and fresh warm bread. Then we were served tasty cream/chicken zoupa followed by great butt steaks, medium rare, topped with melted bleu cheese. Heaven on a plate! OK, we've been here at least once a month and this was first time the middle of the onion loaf was a bit mushy. We told our wonderful and friendly waitress, she showed it management and they agreed. Replaced it...which we happily asked to take home with very good garlic and ranch dip leftovers. while we savored on our meat. The double baked potato and roasted zucchini accompanied it nicely. Because of the minor slip on the O loaf, they offered a complementary desert. That was very nice but we refused. I felt like a thief already. So total bill with one glass of vino and one (free refill) lemonade was $63. Tip of &13 on full bill...so balance due was $13 plus $13 top. Touchdown! And all delicious. This would be a 5 star, but I only hold that for most excelsior joints. Regardless, you will not be disappointed with a night in downtown, starting at Luby's...then have fun at a few of the lively clubs on Oak Park Ave.

This place is horrible . It took 40 minutes for the waitress to take our order I had prime rib and shrimp which was tasteless and dull. My wife had the shrimp and barbecue ribs which is also very bad. The only thing that was edible was the bread and butter I generally don't write reviews for restaurants but I had to write this one to warn anybody do not go to this place even with a groupon.

Avoid Like The Fucking Plague. Right off the bat the waitress was grouzing about not wanting to do separate checks. Ok so no separate checks. Next oh no...you cant use three groupons in your group. Never mind we are a party of 9. We told the waitress we were a family of servers and tip very well. Food took an hour five to arrive. Not sure I want to pay 13 dollars for a hamburger with frozen crinkle cut fries. I would have the chicken parm sandwich again. Calamari was ok and a good price for what we ordered..forced tipping means the waitress took 15 percent of our total groupon value not what we paid. But that came to 36 bucks. She screwed herself there because we are a family of servers with 4 husbands that routinely tip a fifty. My guess is she screwed herself out of about 100 bucks. Ugh terrible food and bitchy staff. Never again.

This is an update to my previous review in Feb. we finally went back for fried chicken and it was all I had hoped for. Crispy skin, flavorful and not greasy. My mom had a strip steak with the blue cheese topping and she loved it. Done perfectly as requested, plenty of blue cheese sauce that had a nice brown charred topping to it. So once again, very pleased and we will return.

Awful, just awful. The outside looks really nice, but very run down on the inside. The service was terrible. You could tell as soon as we pulled out the Groupon our waitress wasn't going to put much effort into giving us good quality service. That is a huge pet peeve of mine. Just because someone has a coupon does not make them cheap and you're going to get gypped on your tip. She definitely took her time and barely came to the table. We were there for TWO HOURS by the time we finished our food. She also said it was busy...the place was half empty!!! The food itself...HOLY COW...SO DISAPPOINTING! Flimsy salad, watered down soup! We ordered the prime rib and the salmon. Both lacked flavor and were just plain lousy and were lukewarm, the fries weren't fully cooked and the green beans looked like they came from a can. Don't waste your money. Glad I had a Groupon at least. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Don't waste your money.

I have been here three times and have always had some great food and great service. Today was the short Ribs which were very tender and flavorful. Came with green beans and mashed potatoes. All were delicious! I also started with cream of potato soup. The soup was great! Past visits have had the perch and fried chicken. Highly recommend both. The mushrooms on the appetizer menu are unique and I can't not order them. Great place with plenty of tv's and big bar area.

My husband and I went last night with a living social deal. Mind you, it was a Saturday night and we did not have a reservation - our bad. We put our name in and went to the bar for a drink. My husband had a gin and tonic which he said was a bit too much on the tonic-side but ok. I had the house merlot and it was very good. We sat there about 30 minutes eating peanuts and pretzels, watching the bulls game before we were called. Our table was in the bar area which was fine as we could continue to watch the game. Our waitress was prompt and gave us the specials - one fish and one steak. We both decided since we were at a steakhouse we should get steak. I wanted the steak but I eat meat medium-well and the special (blue cheese and garlic stuffed filet) could only be cooked to medium. So I opted for a filet, butterflied with blue cheese on top. My husband like meat on the rare side and went for the filet special. The steaks were both cooked to perfection and delicious! The dinner salad is just iceberg lettuce, cucumber and a tomato wedge - nothing special but I think the dressing is homemade - at least our were (french for me, blue cheese for hubby). For sides I got the twice baked potato and it was good. My husband is a no-carber and opted for double veggies. We both got green beans and they were so good! Crisp and sauteed with garlic and tomatoes. This place is no frills and seems to attract the older crowd (we are in our late 40's and we saw only one couple visibly younger than us) but Luby's knows how to cook a great steak! It helps that we had a wonderful waitress that could not have been any more attentive(and I mentioned the living social right when she came to the table which sometimes sets a negative tone with servers!). What more could we ask - great food, good wine and a great waitress! We will go back.

back tonight and as good as it gets, We were in the bar area and it was busy and Barb had the whole area under control, no one was neglected, and the steak, it was so big I couldn't finish it, good dinner for tomorrow

I am giving this place three stars strictly because we had a really pleasant, attentive waitress. Also, I plan on going back and trying something that might be good here, like the ribs, or fried chicken. The downfall of this place is that they have a very extensive, confusing, menu that has dishes, at least the ones we had that do not do the restaurant justice. I believe the significant other and I just simply got the wrong meals. I had the Chicken Parmesan, it was an absolute mockery of good Chicken Parm. I am not a culinary expert but the soggy breading and tender, almost crock pot like texture of the chicken leads me to guess that they use already cooked chicken. If this is incorrect I will retract this, but I am almost positive the chicken was already cooked and then breaded and fried. It was terrible. The S/O had some breaded baked lobster dish that was less than satisfying. This place would be doing itself a service if they just removed some dishes from the menu, or simplified the menu all together. Like I said, we had great service, as did those around us. I even heard one diner say his meal was delicious. We will be back either to have a drink at the bar, or to try the ribs or fried chicken which looked good.

Very nice looking restaurant and bar with very friendly staff. We debated doing the standard bar food tasting, and then we saw the combination plates they offered and gave them a try. While we were deciding, they served warm bread with fresh bruschetta that was excellent. The ribs were tangy and tender, not quite falling off the bone. I am used to shrimp dejonghe in a casserole but theirs are breaded and not very garlicky, different, but ok. If you like garlic you have to have the creamy garlic dressing on the salad, I would go back for that. We also had a combo of steak, pasta and shrimp dejonghe. The pasta was good, the steak was supposed to be rare but was served medium. Overall three stars.

My husband and I had such a wonderful experience as we celebrated our 18th anniversary. We were warmly greeted at the door and brought to a cozy booth. They give you homemade bruscetta and warm bread immediately. It is delicious and, any other place would charge you for that! We had the lobster bentley appetizer...lobster rolled in bread crumbs, garlic and butter. It is amazing. I enjoyed the cobbini salad and my husband had a strip steak that was cooked to perfection. It is nice to get a salad or soup with your meal without having to pay extra for it. Our waitress, Barb, was incredibly friendly. I appreciate a server who knows the menu. She recommended the tiramisu for dessert. It was so rich and creamy. The best I ever had! They give you generous glasses of wine, as well. I would definitively recommend Luby's. It is fine dining without breaking the bank.

Waited twenty minutes for appetizer. She brought soup before appetizer. Wanted balsamic dressing and was told that only comes with steak, not fish. Waitress said they have a " mean " kitchen and absolutely refused to serve the balsamic. Took another twenty minutes to get our perch. Food wasn't bad, but it is very stressful eating here. We will not return!

Every time I see my unused and unwelcomed Groupon I get mad all over. Try again w/ the good weather? Probably not as servers now a year older and a year less able to serve us outside.

Good food, outstanding service, and cozy environment. I think I will definitely be going again. The wait staff was very friendly, was quick to take my dish when I was done, and refill my water glass when it was getting low. I couldn't ask for more. Thank you for being awesome.

Best Fried Chicken I have had in a long long time, barbeque ribs were good too. My wife enjoyed her prime rib, but she did mention that it lacked a little seasoning. I will go again for sure.

My fiancée and I had both had the New York strip steak, by far the worst steak I have ever had in my life, my finance had the same experience her steak was over done hardly able to chew it. On the other hand the mushrooms were great and the service was good. They really need to find a new cook.

Took the family to Luby's for the Mother's Day brunch. Food was hot and tasty but very limited choices.. Service was mediocre, it was a buffet so how much did she have to do but refill beverages and clear plates both of which seemed to be a real chore for our waitress. In addition, when you are paying $19.99 for a brunch I feel non-alcoholic beverages should be included in the price. We were charged additional for coffee and soda - that's a Golden Corral/OCB maneuver. We could have and will in the future go elsewhere where customers are appreciated, the buffet selection is double and beverages are included.
